Finiq or Phoenice was founded in the 5th century BC. According to the ancient author Polybius, it is mentioned as the most fortified city of Epirus and as its capital. Located on a hill 270 m above sea level inland from Butrin in the plain of Vurgu, with 3 km long walls and 3.20x2.20 m stones, it fascinates with its grandeur and beauty. Some of the monuments ruins today part of the turistic itinerary that stand out are the houses with frescoes, the houses with the peristyle, the great theater that was thought to have 12 thousand of spectators, the agora, the temple of Thesaurus, the early Christian Basilica, etc. The city minted its first coin in the mid-4th century BC. The Acropolis played the main social role and maintained it until the fall of the city.
